Hair Goes Nothing
A self-led, personal project inspired by my mum's breast cancer journey. Sadly, when given the diagnosis of cancer it is common for friends to disappear or ‘go off the grid’ as they are uncertain how to deal with the situation. People may stop calling or visiting as they don’t know what to say. I know from experience that hair loss as a result of chemotherapy visually reinforces the reality of the diagnosis to not only the person experiencing cancer but to surrounding loved ones as well.
The idea for this project is to create a wearable ‘headpiece’ to give someone their confidence back, bringing them back into the room. It's about being seen as more than a diagnosis.
